Democrats Are Fighting to Lower the Costs That Trump Has Skyrocketed

  • Donald Trump refused to sign bipartisan legislation that would make housing more affordable, and last week, he doubled down and called it a “big yawn.”
  • Meanwhile, Democrats are leading the fight to make housing, healthcare, and gas prices more affordable:
  • The bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act would have slashed red tape to speed up housing construction while preventing Wall Street from pricing Americans out of the housing market.
  • Earlier this year, House Democrats forced Republicans to pass legislation that would revive ACA premium tax credits to lower the cost of healthcare.
  • Democrats also passed a resolution in the House to end Trump’s war with Iran and ease the sky-high costs of gas prices.

Property Taxes

  • Short Message: Floridians are working harder than ever during an affordability crisis & need practical solutions that lower costs for everyone.
  • But eliminating property taxes just shifts costs onto small businesses & renters through new taxes or fees so we all pay more for our local services.
  • Full Message: Floridians are working harder than ever during an affordability crisis but eliminating property taxes for homeowners won’t solve the problem.
  • Shifting costs onto small businesses and renters through new taxes or fees means we all pay more for our local services.
  • We need practical solutions like capping insurance rate hikes and taxing insurance corporations’ excess profits that lower costs for all working families and seniors.

  • Ending TPS for our Haitian neighbors is about cruelty. America has long been a beacon of hope for those fleeing persecution and violence.
  • Ending TPS would force families to make impossible choices and push U.S. citizen children into poverty.
  • 50,000 U.S. citizen children depend on their Haitian TPS parents’ contributions to the U.S. workforce. Without their parent’s income, 25,000 U.S. citizen children would be pushed into poverty.
  • Over the last few years Haiti has seen deteriorating conditions including increases in sexual violence, food insecurity, and displacement. It is morally wrong to snatch away stability from those who have worked and fought for it and throw them into chaos for political gain.
