Letter from the Chair
August marks an important moment in our democracy. Across our community, neighbors will head to the polls to choose the leaders who will shape our schools, our neighborhoods, and the future of our county, state, and nation.
Every election reminds us that democracy is not something we inherit once—it is something we renew together. It depends on ordinary people making the extraordinary decision to participate.
Voting is more than marking a ballot. It is an expression of hope. It is a declaration that our voices matter and that each of us has a role in building the community we want for ourselves and for future generations. Whether you have voted in every election for decades or this will be your first time casting a ballot, your participation strengthens our democracy.
Now is the time to make your voting plan and take action.
If you would like to vote by mail, you can still request a Vote-by-Mail ballot, but your request must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 6. If you vote by mail, be sure your completed ballot is in the hands of the Supervisor of Elections by 7 PM on election day. Postmarks do not count in the state of Florida. So mail your ballot early.
If you prefer to vote in person before Election Day, take advantage of one of 11 Early Voting locations. During Early Voting, you may cast your ballot at any Early Voting site in Collier County. If you wait until Election Day, however, you must vote at your assigned precinct.
Before you vote, take a few moments to learn about the candidates and the issues. A little preparation today helps ensure your voice is heard tomorrow. Visit CollierDems.org and click on the 2026 Candidates drop-down menu to read about the candidates and their priorities before you cast your ballot.
This election also reminds us of the countless Americans who worked—and often sacrificed—to expand and protect the right to vote. We honor that legacy each time we participate with respect, civility, and a commitment to our shared democratic values.
As we approach the August Primary, I encourage everyone to be informed, be engaged, and, most importantly, vote. Encourage your family, friends, and neighbors to do the same. Every conversation matters. Every vote matters.
Together, we can continue building a community where every voice is heard and every citizen has the opportunity to help shape our future.
Make your plan. Cast your ballot. Encourage others. Democracy works best when we all take part.
In solidarity,
Jane Schlechtweg

The Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida is proud to endorse Jose Javier Rodriguez (JJR) for Florida Attorney General and Angie Nixon for the U.S. Senate. We look forward to announcing our endorsements in additional state and federal races over the coming weeks. Following our recent webinar on AI hyperscale data centers, we are encouraging local governments across Florida to adopt temporary moratoriums on the development of hyperscale data centers while their environmental, infrastructure, and community impacts are carefully evaluated. Our work continues across the state through candidate engagement, educational webinars, Vote-by-Mail outreach to environmentally minded voters, and the development of a strong Environmental Justice Coalition.
