Letter from the Chair
🎉 🇺🇸 HAPPY 250TH BIRTHDAY, USA 🇺🇸 🎉 |
|
As we celebrate Independence Day, we are reminded of the extraordinary ideals upon which our nation was founded—liberty, self-government, and the belief that the people should have a voice in shaping their future. The Fourth of July is more than fireworks, parades, and family gatherings. It is an opportunity to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy and the responsibilities that come with them. One of the greatest privileges of living in the United States is the right to vote. For generations, Americans have worked, sacrificed, and, in many cases, given their lives to protect our democracy and expand the right to participate in it. The ability to cast a ballot is a powerful expression of citizenship and one of the most meaningful ways we can honor those who came before us. Voting allows each of us to have a voice in the decisions that affect our communities, our states, and our nation. Regardless of our backgrounds or beliefs, participating in elections is a way to help shape the future and strengthen our democracy. This Independence Day, as we celebrate the freedoms we cherish, let us also remember the importance of civic participation. Taking the time to learn about the issues, understand the voting process, and make a plan to vote is one way we can honor the principles of democracy that have guided our nation for nearly 250 years. May your Fourth of July be filled with gratitude, celebration, and pride in the enduring promise of our democracy. In solidarity, Jane Schlechtweg |
