After more than a century of progress, from securing the right to vote to advancing workplace protections, women’s rights in America are no longer guaranteed. Today, those hard-won gains face growing challenges from judicial decisions, state-level rollbacks, and shifting political priorities.

Across the country, fundamental rights are increasingly determined by geography. What a woman can acces, in healthcare, voting, education, and economic opportunity, now often depends on where she lives. This emerging patchwork threatens the principle of equal rights under the law.

Key Issues at Stake

Voting Rights
Proposals such as the SAVE Act and similar state laws impose stricter voter ID and citizenship verification requirements. While framed as election security measures, these policies risk creating real barriers for many eligible women, particularly those affected by name changes, limited access to documentation, or caregiving responsibilities. Expanding access to the ballot remains essential to a functioning democracy.

Healthcare and Reproductive Freedom
Access to comprehensive healthcare, including contraception and reproductive services, is increasingly inconsistent nationwide. Restrictions in some states have created confusion, limited options, and, in certain cases, legal risks for women seeking care. The ability to make personal medical decisions remains central to both health and autonomy.

Economic Opportunity
Women continue to face wage disparities, especially women of color. Policies supporting equal pay, paid family leave, and affordable childcare are critical to closing these gaps and strengthening economic security for families.

Education and Gender Equity
Protections under Title IX and broader gender equity measures are under debate. Efforts to narrow protections risk limiting safeguards against discrimination and harassment, while also affecting access to inclusive educational environments.
