Polluted water from Lake Okeechobee continues to pour toxic algae into our rivers and into the Gulf fueling the prolonged outbreak of red tide.
This isn’t just an environmental problem. It’s also an economic problem. And a political problem. The solution to the political challenge is clear: New leadership in state government to fix this.
While it is true that red tide occurs naturally, it is unnatural for it to be as severe and as prolonged as it has been. It has been fueled by nutrients–pollution–flowing into our coastal waters because of mismanagement of Lake Okeechobee. That’s a manmade problem that can only be resolved if the right people are in charge.
It’s time for a change.
