From the Florida Democratic Party
Parkland students are speaking out against Rick Scott’s long record of opposing common sense gun safety measures, and why they don’t trust him to look out for anyone but himself when it comes to this critical issue.
Here are the facts:
Scott signed a bill that barred doctors from asking patients whether they had access to guns.
Scott did not propose new gun laws or seek significant mental health funding increases after the Pulse nightclub massacre.
Scott slashed millions in funding for school safety.
Scott ended $20 million in funding for mental health care despite Florida already ranking at the bottom.
Scott has long resisted gun control efforts including his refusal to support expanded background checks and a ban on assault weapons.
Here’s what one student from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School said:
“It is my astute belief that the blood of those 17 people is on Rick Scott’s hands.”
