An overflow crowd converged on 21 Spices by Chef Asif on Saturday to hear guest speakers Ellen Hemrick and Myrlande Desir discuss race relations, social justice, equality, and a host of other issues and how they intersect and impact our ability to function as a society.
Attendees were welcomed by Democratic Party Chair Annisa Karim, who urged Democrats to get involved and volunteer as we mark the beginning of one year until the 2020 presidential election.
NAACP President Vincent Keeys also spoke and urged guests to attend the annual Freedom Fund gala on Feb. 22.
Hemrick, is the president of the southwest Florida chapter of Showing Up for Racial Justice. Desir is the secretary of the Collier County Democratic Club.
The crowd dined on appetizers, entrees and deserts made especially for the event, and received complimentary henna hand art designs.
Proceeds from the event help the Collier County Democratic Party in its efforts to register and educate voters, and support candidates. It is an all-volunteer organization.
