The Florida Progressives PAC has endorsed David A. Turrubiartez, Jr. in his campaign for Collier County Commissioner District 5, calling him a candidate who is “willing to stand for all people – not just the select few – through public service, amplifying our message and enacting change.”
Turrubiartez is a longtime resident of Immokalee, in District 5, and has pledged to give its citizens the kind of representation they deserve. His opponent, incumbent Republican William McDaniel is an excavating company owner who has served four years as District 5’s commissioner. The Commission is expected to approve amendments to the nearby Rural Lands Stewardship Area (RLSA), which is owned by a group of property owners who each have big pieces of the 185,000 acres. The amendments make adherence to Smart Growth a “voluntary option”, which environmentalists and Turrubiartez strongly oppose.
“I’m honored and humbled by this endorsement from Florida’s leading Progressive consortium,” said Turrubiartez. “Achieving a more sustainable Florida is a goal I share with this organization and I will be proud and diligent in working toward a committed progressive vision for the future.”
