As Gov. Rick Scott discussed his record on taxes, Florida Democratic Party Spokeswoman Caroline Rowland issued the following statement:
“Here’s the truth about Rick Scott’s self-serving record on this issue: he’s backed proposals to cut his own taxes while trying to raise taxes, fees and costs on Floridians who actually work for a living.
Democrats around America are celebrating the results of a special election in Pennsylvania where the Democratic challenger beat his entrenched Republican opponent in the heart of Trump country in a special election Tuesday. The Democratic victory in this race is widely seen as a bellwether for the 2018 mid-term elections as Donald Trump won this district by 20 points in 2016.
On this coming Tuesday, March 13th, we will be writing postcards to our congressmen, as well as writing to invite people to come to the March for our Lives on Saturday, March 24th, at Cambier Park.
Dr. Alina Valdes has been selected to receive a Caribbean American Heritage Award on June 9, 2018 at a function at the Doubletree by Hilton, Sunrise, Florida. Dr. Valdes is thrilled that her work in community health and with under-served patients is to be honored in this way.

This last week the Republican majority in the Florida legislature has managed to astound the entire United States. Once again they have put their own special interests above the desires and interests of Florida’s citizens and produced a piece of legislation on gun reform that makes clear they are not listening to the citizens of Florida, but instead to the NRA.
The Florida Democratic Party is having a DAY OF ACTION on Saturday, March 10. The purpose of this event is to make a visible and widespread show of support, as Florida Democrats, that the Republicans have not created the real reforms we need for gun safety. Our goal is to educate likely voters on how Governor Rick Scott and Florida Republicans once again sold out Florida families in order to appease the gun lobby and their donors.
The Florida Legislature’s bill in response to the Parkland massacre does not go far enough to protect the people of Florida from gun violence. Democrats have fought throughout this process, and for the past few decades, for common sense gun legislation. SB 7026 was missing the key components of that – including banning assault weapons, universal background checks, and closing the gun show loop hole.
A group of college students at Florida SouthWEstern State College has organized a College Democrats Club and they need our support and advice. They’ve established a GoFundMe site to raise money to attend a convention in Washington D.C. and could use mentors.
