Congressional candidate Dr. Cindy Banyai, and candidate for Florida State Representative District 105, Maureen Porras, have endorsed each other.
Both Porras and Banyai share similar values and are particularly passionate about reforming the American immigration and justice systems.
Porras has been working as an immigration attorney to assist refugees, asylees, victims of abuse, and victims of trafficking and crimes with legal services. Porras currently serves as Director of Immigration Legal Services at Church World Service (CWS), a global non-profit committed to promoting sustainable economic and social development worldwide as well as assisting vulnerable immigrant populations. She plans to bring her professional experience in law and immigration to the table as a state representative.
Dr. Banyai is committed to ending family separation at the border, closing migrant detention facilities, and creating a clear pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients in the United States as well as creating a fair and just immigration system. She plans to introduce a “Restore the Dream Act” to set in motion these and other reforms to help immigrants. Banyai is also calling for criminal justice reforms such as the legalization of cannabis, implicit bias training for law enforcement and public officials, and reallocating funds to better serve the community.
The candidates look forward to working together to serve the people of Southwest Florida.
